Les Surfs - Cosi' Come Viene/In Un Fiore 7" (1966)

Les Surfs were a brother-sister sextet, originally from Madagascar. They gained international success in the 1960's, producing most of their music in France, but they also released records in Italy and Spain, along with the rare English language track.

This 7" was released in Italy (vocals in Italian) in 1966. The two songs are both fun, upbeat 60's Pop, and the B-side has a pretty strong Tango influence. The record sleeve claims that the songs were arranged and composed by Sam Clayton, but I'm not sure if it's the same Sam Clayton of Little Feat fame. Nothing was mentioned on Discogs, but this would pretty much represent the earliest stages of his career if so. This 7" was purchased for me in Italy by my sister.

Side A: "Cosi' Come Viene"

Side B: "In Un Fiore"

Dollar Bin Video #1 - "Rollerblading in the 90's"

This is a new segment where I share a video edited from my very own VHS tape collection. This one comes from a 1991 tape called "Inline" and it is pretty self-explanatory (and rad). People in the 90's were very much in love with Rollerblading, and they took that love to some very interesting places in this video. Enjoy.

Lawrence Welk's Orchestra plays 'Star Wars'

Lawrence Welk is a music and entertainment legend, and you can read all about him on your own time. Even though this live album ("Lawrence Welk Live at Lake Tahoe") plays like somewhat of a variety show, I don't think anyone will complain that I boiled it down to one track - a really stellar Star Wars medley performed by a great live orchestra.

The band is announced at the end as George Cates and the Champagne Music Makers (George Cates was Lawrence Welk's music director for many years), but is credited on the album simply as "Orchestra." The song is an awesome medley of all the Star Wars music, including my personal favorite, the "Cantina" band's song. So, I hope you enjoy, especially you nerds out there that have never heard this version!
